So- take your own advice

As a Wellness Coach I work with a diverse range of people (clients) for a wide range of reasons.
  • ·         Physical health
  • ·         Body composition matters
  • ·         Performance enhancement
  • ·         Injury prevention
  • ·         Pain issues
  • ·         Stress management
  • ·         Personal / career goals

But no matter the reason for the coaching – the client is ultimately saying ‘ I want to be different to how I am now and I want to change’

Change is not easy, we resist it so much – and yet change opens us up to so much possibility
We look at life from our ‘frame of reference’ made up of a combination of factors that have become our ‘belief system’ – it’s from this ‘belief system’ we view our world
To change we need to step outside of ourselves, shake up our belief system, push ourselves to new heights and appreciate our small victories along the way.

So instead of dishing out the advice on Saturday 1st Feb – I took the advice – while Fire Walking was not on my bucket list when the opportunity was presented to me I though go for it

I approached the night with one resolution in mind – I was going to be proud of myself either way - whether I walked or not

I think so often when we change our minds we scold ourselves, speak harshly to our selves, use self defeating language – of course this in turn continues that ever increasing circle of negativity in our lives – the conversation that we may as well stay where we are because we are disappointing ourselves by not succeeding

So my goal on Saturday was – make a decision stick to it and be proud of the outcome however the penny dropped

As it happened I walked – I stood at the end of the fire – fixed my eyes on and focused on one spot, cleared my head and replayed Stephen’s words – walk calmly and confidently

I lifted my right foot and found myself standing on embers of 600 degrees Celsius , then my left foot, then my right foot and so on to the end, the round of applause from my fellow walkers  signaled to my brain that I was at the end – and so did the very cold wet asphalt of the car park!
I never considered doing it, but I am glad I did –

What did the evening and event do for me – I was going to be proud either way. I was doing what was going to serve me best on the night and at that time with no harsh talk or regrets
A wall is built brick by brick – change is small actions followed by small victories

So as a Coach / Instructor – what are you doing today to push yourself out of your comfort zone?

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer Here's a great quiz question what does Lady Gaga and the London Irish rugby team have in common ? would you believe it they both practice Pilates on the Reformer!!! Lady Gaga on the Reformer -  article in the DailyMail Pilates is called the Pilates System because it is designed around 7 pieces of equipment – one of which is the Pilates Reformer – sometimes described as a Reformer bed, perhaps eluding to it’s origins as a 3ft single bed in an internment camp on the Isle of Man, where Joseph Pilates spent much of the 1 st WW and insisted that all the inmates perform daily movements utilizing their bed springs!  In my opinion the Reformer stands out on its own from the other pieces for its versatility While BODYFIRM [est 1998] have always had a fully equip studio [reformer, trap table, barrels etc] most people are more familiar with  Mat Pilates, however in the last few years more studios have opened in Dubl...

Tabata - High Intensity Interval Training

Also check out our Client Jan Newsletter  We have been using the Tabata system of training in our studio for several years now both in our Met-X-Fitness and in our more Blitz / Boot Camp orientated Pilates Mat and Reformer Class’s and because I know all about the excellent benefits and results of this style of training I rather stupidly assumed everyone else did too. I realized last week that this was not the case when on two separate occasions I was asked by a client and a trainer I was chatting with - the same two questions what exactly is Tabata? And how does it work? So here it is – Tabata, a high intensity, short duration effective exercise system Tabata – What is it? Tabata (developed by it’s name sake Japanese Professor Izumi Tabata) is a high intensity interval training system (HIIT) that since its inception has provided remarkable results  - he originally developed this system for the Japanese speed skating team in 1996 Tabata – How does it wor...
