Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.

Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure. Joseph Pilates
What a wonderful statement ‘a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure’
This encapsulates why people enjoy participating in Pilates, it is a physical system (and remember it is a system built over mat and many varied Pilates machines) that is about posture – bringing us back to 8 loadable joints, that is not just about physical fitness, jumping, higher, driving the ball further, staying injury free, [while you get all those benefits as well]
Since this wonderful system was developed our style of living has changed considerably, we have remotes for everything, drive everywhere, sit most of the time and forget that we are bodies of energy and movement –movement is essential for health and well being. When we are not moving we become stagnant and this can manifest in blocked energy, reduced blood flow, reduced flexibility and pain from postural dysfunction.
A well crafted PROGRESSIVE Pilates session offers a wealth of functional movement, movements that dove tail together to assist us fight the effects of gravity and the effects of our working / living environments and help us to tackle the activities of daily living [adl’s] with said ‘zest and pleasure’
By participating regularly [two to three times per week] PROGRESSIVE Pilates restores mobility, flexibility and stability it brings about fascial [connective tissue] and postural balance.
So put some 'Zest and Pleasure back in your life - take up PROGRESSIVE Pilates -

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer Here's a great quiz question what does Lady Gaga and the London Irish rugby team have in common ? would you believe it they both practice Pilates on the Reformer!!! Lady Gaga on the Reformer -  article in the DailyMail Pilates is called the Pilates System because it is designed around 7 pieces of equipment – one of which is the Pilates Reformer – sometimes described as a Reformer bed, perhaps eluding to it’s origins as a 3ft single bed in an internment camp on the Isle of Man, where Joseph Pilates spent much of the 1 st WW and insisted that all the inmates perform daily movements utilizing their bed springs!  In my opinion the Reformer stands out on its own from the other pieces for its versatility While BODYFIRM [est 1998] have always had a fully equip studio [reformer, trap table, barrels etc] most people are more familiar with  Mat Pilates, however in the last few years more studios have opened in Dubl...

Tabata - High Intensity Interval Training

Also check out our Client Jan Newsletter  We have been using the Tabata system of training in our studio for several years now both in our Met-X-Fitness and in our more Blitz / Boot Camp orientated Pilates Mat and Reformer Class’s and because I know all about the excellent benefits and results of this style of training I rather stupidly assumed everyone else did too. I realized last week that this was not the case when on two separate occasions I was asked by a client and a trainer I was chatting with - the same two questions what exactly is Tabata? And how does it work? So here it is – Tabata, a high intensity, short duration effective exercise system Tabata – What is it? Tabata (developed by it’s name sake Japanese Professor Izumi Tabata) is a high intensity interval training system (HIIT) that since its inception has provided remarkable results  - he originally developed this system for the Japanese speed skating team in 1996 Tabata – How does it wor...
