EAT LESS RATHER THAN EXERCISE MORE !

You are what you eat !

Up to August 8th 2014, I had covered approx., 2000k on my bike [cycle] between training and participating in sportives organized throughout Ireland.

Between cycling I would have participated in HIIT training several times per week incorporating Kettlebell and suspension training - Pilates and fascial stretching would have factored several times per week as well.

At that time while not consuming high carbs I would have been loading on the long [100k plus] days.  My weight never changed in fact after some of my sportives I looked more bloated from the high sugar gels etc. that I would have consumed [inflamed]

Forced to stop

In August I had a car crash and things changed drastically for me, moving was an issue never mind training. So as a Wellness Coach I became my own client and had to take myself in hand and work with myself physically, emotionally and spiritually I had to take a 360 degree look at how I was going to manage going forward

I could not train for over 8 months and so  In order to stave off the possible effects of arthritis  and a sedentary lifestyle I changed my diet to an autoimmune Paleo style system of eating – high protein, fat and only fibrous carbs

Great ideas from necessity

Coupled with my new eating plan in the new year[2015] I developed a static version of Pilates so I could keep my body supple and mobile and in the  last 2 months I developed a basic primal style workout simple pulls, pushes, squats [when legs healed] and planks.

To help me cope and allow my mind to de stress I read prolifically about all the various methods  available for ‘Mindfulness’ from this I have developed a personal practice that keeps my mind on track

Today I am 2 sizes smaller, looking fitter and feeling stronger – all based on eating less, exercising less and keeping a ‘mindfulness’ practice.
Be warned this takes consistency and becomes a life style
Now if only the legs would let me go for a good walk!!!

This type of plan works I know I am an example –
And according to this very interesting article by Aaron E. Carroll [professor of paediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine] eating less and exercising less is the way to go !

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer Here's a great quiz question what does Lady Gaga and the London Irish rugby team have in common ? would you believe it they both practice Pilates on the Reformer!!! Lady Gaga on the Reformer -  article in the DailyMail Pilates is called the Pilates System because it is designed around 7 pieces of equipment – one of which is the Pilates Reformer – sometimes described as a Reformer bed, perhaps eluding to it’s origins as a 3ft single bed in an internment camp on the Isle of Man, where Joseph Pilates spent much of the 1 st WW and insisted that all the inmates perform daily movements utilizing their bed springs!  In my opinion the Reformer stands out on its own from the other pieces for its versatility While BODYFIRM [est 1998] have always had a fully equip studio [reformer, trap table, barrels etc] most people are more familiar with  Mat Pilates, however in the last few years more studios have opened in Dubl...

Tabata - High Intensity Interval Training

Also check out our Client Jan Newsletter  We have been using the Tabata system of training in our studio for several years now both in our Met-X-Fitness and in our more Blitz / Boot Camp orientated Pilates Mat and Reformer Class’s and because I know all about the excellent benefits and results of this style of training I rather stupidly assumed everyone else did too. I realized last week that this was not the case when on two separate occasions I was asked by a client and a trainer I was chatting with - the same two questions what exactly is Tabata? And how does it work? So here it is – Tabata, a high intensity, short duration effective exercise system Tabata – What is it? Tabata (developed by it’s name sake Japanese Professor Izumi Tabata) is a high intensity interval training system (HIIT) that since its inception has provided remarkable results  - he originally developed this system for the Japanese speed skating team in 1996 Tabata – How does it wor...
