Train early, eat Paleo and take an hour all for your self!

Through living the life as well as offering the Coaching [Wellness and Paleo Lifestyle coaching] I find it very interesting how my exercise / workout habits have changed over the years.

In the 80’s as a younger fitness professional! as well as an International bodybuilder / powerlifter my routines where all about being able to pull / push more day in and day out, it was all about putting more weight on the bar.

Following my last international competition [over 20 odd years ago] I did a 360 turn and left the gym behind me to find something else that would work me out but not be so compressive on all of my structures.

I wanted my body to be the only workout machine I would ever need and so I worked on developing a system of bodyweight movements that would not only challenge me but would create flow and space in my body as well.

When in the USA I stumbled on Pilates, tried it and was hooked, it so suited how my body wanted to workout it complemented the system I had developed for myself and it definitely gave me the flow that I was looking for – and so my very long love affair began!

I never felt healthier or fitter than when I was tapering down for a competition and so I decided to stay on a similar regime of eating – as it turns out I now know this to be a Paleo lifestyle

Eating Paleo and training daily with my bodyweight and Pilates  is a routine  far more gentle than anything I ever did in the gym [don’t be fooled there is nothing gentle about doing Pilates with me !!] and here I am over 20 years later and I feel fitter, stronger and much healthier .

The other key factor for me is as I describe it  my hour of power in the morning, when I get up I take one hour to myself, no emails, phones etc no interruptions of any kind.
I start my hour with a cup of hot water and lemon, I sit and watch the morning unfold and breathe. I have quite time for my meditation and spiritual practice this gives me the head space to face the rest of the day.

Once that is over I stretch and train – all done before anyone else gets their hands on my time
I find this trinity system the most effect way for me to live a life that is healthy, full of energy and balanced.

By training early you meet your needs in terms of your health check out this article from May’s Time magazine If exercise stops, then everything else will start falling apart There’s a prevalent attitude among entrepreneurs that the business, whatever that business is, comes first. It is the high priority that trumps everything else, including family, friends and especially health’

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer

Reason's to go GAGA for the Reformer Here's a great quiz question what does Lady Gaga and the London Irish rugby team have in common ? would you believe it they both practice Pilates on the Reformer!!! Lady Gaga on the Reformer -  article in the DailyMail Pilates is called the Pilates System because it is designed around 7 pieces of equipment – one of which is the Pilates Reformer – sometimes described as a Reformer bed, perhaps eluding to it’s origins as a 3ft single bed in an internment camp on the Isle of Man, where Joseph Pilates spent much of the 1 st WW and insisted that all the inmates perform daily movements utilizing their bed springs!  In my opinion the Reformer stands out on its own from the other pieces for its versatility While BODYFIRM [est 1998] have always had a fully equip studio [reformer, trap table, barrels etc] most people are more familiar with  Mat Pilates, however in the last few years more studios have opened in Dubl...

Tabata - High Intensity Interval Training

Also check out our Client Jan Newsletter  We have been using the Tabata system of training in our studio for several years now both in our Met-X-Fitness and in our more Blitz / Boot Camp orientated Pilates Mat and Reformer Class’s and because I know all about the excellent benefits and results of this style of training I rather stupidly assumed everyone else did too. I realized last week that this was not the case when on two separate occasions I was asked by a client and a trainer I was chatting with - the same two questions what exactly is Tabata? And how does it work? So here it is – Tabata, a high intensity, short duration effective exercise system Tabata – What is it? Tabata (developed by it’s name sake Japanese Professor Izumi Tabata) is a high intensity interval training system (HIIT) that since its inception has provided remarkable results  - he originally developed this system for the Japanese speed skating team in 1996 Tabata – How does it wor...
