Sitting is the new smoking, and it’s time to quit

It was slipping on a patch of ice and twisting as he fell that dealt the final blow to Tim Sitt’s back. But the injury had been waiting to happen for months, his chiropractor told him – the direct result of slouching at his office desk for 12 or more hours a day. “I was tight through my hip flexors, my quads, my glutes,” he recalls. “I was tight everywhere.” Check out the rest of this very interesting article here  http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health-and-fitness/fitness/would-you-do-this-at-work/article17945720/

May 2014 is Green Ribbon Month – BODYFIRM Wellness Studios support Green Ribbon month PROGRESSIVE Pilates for Mental Health and well being There is an understated magnificence to PROGRESSIVE Pilates [this progressive style has been developed by myself and is taught @ bodyfirm studios] – it provides the body and mind with power, mastery and calm For me PROGRESSIVE Pilates speaks to my very being, on a daily basis it allows me a freedom to physically express my authentic self and the mind space to circumnavigate the stress’s and anxieties of our modern day living.  My daily practice brings me mental focus The Mind and the Body cannot be separated they are intrinsically interlinked – the chemistry of the thought process reflects directly on the physical body – this oneness / unity has always been paramount for me – that is why PROGRESSIVE Pilates had both a profound and transformational effect. Pilates and Breathing ..... are you breathing ?

Effect your Well Being If there were two things you could do / take up today that could effect your entire sense of well being both mentally and physically – what would they be? Well the answer is PROGRESSIVE Pilates and Breathing [lateral diaphragmatic breathing] In our PROGRESSIVE Pilates practice the breath is the force that unites both mental awareness and physical effort Within our practice a key factor is developing a correct / improved breathing dynamic – breathing correctly can have so many positive and beneficial effects on both our Minds and our Bodies “Breathing is the first act of life, and the last. Nutrition Vs Food - what to eat for exercise

Nutrition – The science of foods and their components [nutrients and other substances], including the relations to health and disease [actions, interactions, and balances]; processes with the body [ingestion, digestion, absorption, transport, functions and disposal of end products]; and the social, economic, cultural, and psychological implications of eating Nutrition Custom Edition 4 th Edition – Authors Dr. Paul Insel, Don Ross, Kimberley McMahon and Dr. Melissa Bernstein Food Here’s a question do you ‘eat to live’ or ‘live to eat’? How many of us actually sit down and enjoy our food? We are people on the run, snatching a bite here and a bite there, standing by the sink, cooker or fridge. We use food in so many ways, [below are examples – the list is not limited to these examples] Social - Nice meal out to get to know someone – or keeping up with old friends Reward – using food as a reward, congratulating ourselves on a job well done, a competition
